FALL IS HERE!

Hello everyone and welcome to October!   September has gone by in a flash and we have made the most of our time together.

Our trip to Arnet Pattern Co. was a fun time as we toured the business of our Resident Bill  Zimmer.  Bill’s son, Paul, gave us a great tour and talked with us about how the whole business worked. The Patterns that are made there are shipped to several different cities all across the United States.  Arnet Pattern Co. was started back in 1948 and Bill Zimmer began work for this company when he was in High School.  He later became the company’s first apprentice. Several years later, Bill Zimmer and his oldest son Gary purchased the shop in the mid 1970’s. They eventually brought his other 2 sons, Paul and David into the business too.  All the Residents who attended our outing enjoyed the trip and came back with more knowledge about how this interesting business works. We are very thankful to have had this wonderful opportunity!

We celebrated “Chocolate Day” by dipping some of our favorite snacks (Strawberries, pineapple, angel food cake and Rice Krispy treats) into melted chocolate!  It was fun to do and most of all fun to EAT!  Later the same day, we enjoyed a presentation on a recent vacation of Europe by Joyce and Larry Henke.  Joyce is the Daughter of our Resident, Jerry Pape.  Besides all of the beautiful pictures and power point presentation, they treated us to a sampling of German Wine and some Swiss Chocolate too.  What a day of food sampling and great photos!

Audiologist, Dr. T.K. visited us here at Stillwater and offered a free hearing test to all who wanted one.  He will return in November to do more testing and also offer to clean the hearing aids of anyone who needs that service done as well.   If your loved one participated in the hearing testing that day, a report will be in Margie’s office for you to view the results.

An area Youth Group from Lifebrook Church in Bethalto, visited us on a Wednesday evening and enjoyed playing games and eating cookies with our Residents.  A few of the students spent time looking through an interesting scrapbook that was put together by one of our Resident’s daughters and hearing some of the life stories of our Residents.  This intergenerational time spent together benefit all involved.

We have added yet another exercise class to our weekly schedule and it has been very well attended so far.  It is called “Silver Sneakers” and is held here every Tuesday morning at 10 am.  Medical research proves that it is very important to keep everyone moving and engaged in physical activity.   We have a total of 4 classes to choose from all offered on different days.  Several of our Residents attend all 4 classes during the week because each class offers something unique.

Our Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, October 1st this year, so please mark your calendars if you would like to come and celebrate with us.  We have many fun Activities scheduled for this day and welcome all to attend, Please RSVP (#692-2273) if you plan to stay for lunch.   The day will kick off with our Antique Car Show at 10am, followed by Don the Magician, the Waterloo German Band, Lunch and Big Papa G will round out our celebration with a game show full of laughs and prizes!

Wishing each of you a great fall season ahead . . .
